Remember this incredible photo that I shared at Halloween? I recently received a message from photographer Fiona Fletcher, detailing the most wonderful backstory to the photo shoot : “This was a series of images Woodland Fairies that I had wanted to shoot for a long time. I wanted to use vintage 80’s dresses I owned, so I chose the masks to correspond to each of the dresses. I then cast the models to also complement the character of each outfit…
…With all this in place my friend and props stylist Hannah Read-Baldrey created the most beautiful wings and set the scene with wonderful styling in the forest for me!” Isn’t that just the coolest? I love knowing that the idea for these incredible images began with something as simple as a collection of vintage dresses from the 1980’s—and it’s such a breathtaking testament to the power of creative collaboration between two gifted artists. Fiona’s note lead me to the rest of her stunning portfolio; not only is she a fabulous photographer (see below!) but she’s also a world-renowned stylist who has worked with such talents as Dame Helen Mirren and Sir Ian McKellen.
And then of course there’s set designer and props stylist Hannah Read-Baldrey, whose work I have admired for so long (below). I’m thrilled to announce that Hannah just contacted me with the news that she has started her own blog! Hannah trained in theatre design and now works mainly in the fashion and lifestyle industries–be sure to check out her amazing shoot with Victoria Beckham! Her blog is a portfolio of recent projects, and I can’t wait to see more beautiful work as she continues to share with us in the future.
It’s a funny thing: as a blogger it’s so easy to get lost in the images that we surround ourselves with everyday, and to forget about the people behind those images. So thank you to Fiona and Hannah for reaching out and sharing the story behind your work!
